Get things done!
By Jazzmouse“Time and tide wait for no man” and in this increasingly hectic world what can we do to help this?
I have found that organisation is key. I was a ‘never ending’ list writer but rarely got anything done. Through the Creative Business Partnership I was fortunate enough to receive some business coaching and we highlighted that one of the biggest faults in many businesses, large or small, is time management and more importantly structured time management. You can make all the lists in the world but unless you can map them out during your day you are not making progress.
The first GTD (get things done) package I used was called Things. This works well on both the iPhone and Mac but was a bit lumpy and not contextual enough. Omnifocus on the other hand is a real work horse. It’s intuitive interface and simple layout make it a very quick and easy to use package. The iPhone app is very similar and they sync via my Mobile me cloud with out any need to connect your PDA to the computer. Omnifocus allows you to set times for all manner of projects and contexts and really helps plan your day and week to help you get things done.

During one of the great Jon Davey events this year I was turned onto Evernote by internet psychologist Graham Jones. Evernote is FREE! This fantastic package enables you to store a multitude of documents whether it is text, audio, a map and images. You can group items into contextual notebooks and it then synchronises it self on the web. This gives you access anywhere either on the web or via your laptop and your PDA.
If you are researching information for a blog, for example, there are handy key board short cuts that allow you to easily add notes without leaving the page you are on.

Business Leads UK - a few rules of engagement
By Jon DaveyJust spending today saying hello to those who have signed up at Business Leads UK. This is a generic communication so don’t think I am picking on you... just want to connect and lay down a few general rules for guidance.
This is a business space aimed at helping you to find business opportunities for your business.
The best way for you to do this is to add articles about stuff that others will find interesting. Don’t just post something that says 25% OFF, it means nothing and will beget the same!!
People deal with people they know, like and trust (cheers Dave) and in order for people to get to know you they need information. Don’t leave your profile blank, go add a few sentences to start the process.
Profiles left blank for more than say 10 days will be deleted...
This website is not about numbers in the group, it’s about those in the group engaging with the others... that doesn’t mean knocking on doors saying "be my friend" when you don’t know each other... leave that to better known communities.
There is no time for ego in this space... people can post articles and others should respond in a constructive way... either positively or negatively... don’t take it personally... assume that everyone is here to help... if they are not then I’ll kick them out with no ceremony!!
My vision is that this website becomes known for quality... the information that is posted is 250+ word articles and not 140 character Tweets... people post articles that create a conversation, not just simply, look at me aren’t I just amazing darling...
You are expected to comment on others posts... no point in just loitering with intent... you need to have an opinion to hang around here...
On the 15th I’ll be hovering up all the “dead” accounts ... those that have not added a reasonable profile or other content ... then on the 20th October we’ll turn on the video chat and step things up a gear...
We already have 72 logged on to the space but only 6 have posted a blog... go add a blog that will get people asking you questions... we’ve only been pre-open for a week so 72 is jolly good for registrations and I understand how busy people are ... how the day’s run out ... but please, pop in soon and add a few words...
Let’s make this space ROCK!
Let it be the magnet for all those full of positive energy and willing to contribute and help others with ideas that can make their businesses fly in these difficult times.
Thank you.
Jon Davey

After the full house at the Aldeburgh Festival Juan Martin has spent the summer in Spain before embarking on the Autumn concert schedule
As Juan Martín announces his Autumn tour of Canada there are already plans afoot for his return in October 2010 with a tour in Ontario and larger cities. After the film of his large dance company made in Istanbul was played on Ovation tv Australia this Spring, we had enormous feedback. So we eagerly await the release of the film of his Barbican concert made in London with his group in May this year. It is almost ready and Flamencovision are in talks with a company for worldwide distribution to tv stations; a dvd release will then follow.
Juan’s music is increasingly heard worldwide, from the BBC ‘Friday Night is Music Night’ in August this year to the YouTube hit ‘La Feria’ and the music used on the ‘Dog Whisperer’ worldwide as well as on Spanish tv for the announcement of the bull fights.
“In Martín’s hands, Flamenco is not so much a musical style as an entire culture compressed into a quivering box of air.” The Guardian

Made in Windsor Berkshire UK
By Jon DaveyIn 2002 we set up Business in Berkshire to help local businesses boost their profile and promote local networking events. Business Leads UK is not restricted to Berkshire, anyone from UK based businesses can join in.
There is a business theory called the Regional Economic Multiplier which states that £1 spent with a local business will be spent with between six or seven other local businesses and therefore help many local businesses and their families.
Many of the large corporate and banks have farmed off their customer services to the Far East based on cost with little thought for the long term impact both economically in the UK and for the reputation of their brand.
Business Leads UK is about encouraging businesses to trade locally. Look to your town, then your county, your country and then, if you have to go abroad… but not as first choice just because of price… that is such short-termism!
We particularly need to encourage manufacturing here in the UK and would love to hear from companies who actually make things. We have a very strong seo base with our Business in Berkshire website and would be happy to help local manufacturers with FREE web space.
If you are a manufacturing company sign up to our Business Leads UK community, we can then help you find opportunities to do business… if you don’t tell us who you are how can we help?
We’d particularly like to hear from businesses in Windsor… Berkshire… and the UK !
Do you worship customers?
By Malcolm WicksI think that we all "worship" customers at one time or another. For example when they have just given us a big order or perhaps even helped our business survive by staying with us. The secret is to do the "worshiping" when the customer is not looking.

How REALLY famous are you?
By Jon DaveyThings change over time as is true with anything... fashions move on... news is hot for the moment, usually a day or two.
Recently I used it to establish peoples relative interest in "business leads" to everything else around them and firmly established that there was 1000x more interest in Britney than in business leads!!
We all thing we are so important but actually the real word doesn't give a stuff!!
I called my list "whatever" as that is the nature of it...
Add a comment like "add me" and I'll see how you score... great if you share your name with a celeb or a local estate agent!

Is your website helping you pull ?
By Jon Davey• How many web visitors do you get each day, week, month?
• How many of these visitors actually make contact?
• And how many turn into business?
What's your take... are you upset that 100 people visit your site each day and nobody seems to call... or do 10 people turn up and 2 people buy something ...
• Are you one of the 60% of businesses that have no or limited customer service management systems in place?
• Do you recognise the need for you to improve your online marketing?
• Would you like to be part of the pull marketing generation?
So many questions... what's your ? Or would you like some help and guidance? Ask me that question and I'll see what answer I can come up with! If I don't know then I do know a man that does...
Can you help chaps... is the answer YES?
By Jon DaveyIt was recommended to me that, on Twitter at least, if someone follows you, you follow them by return as this is the etiquette. I did and then found I was being followed by porn stars! So I chopped this back, see how that happened here: Twitter experiment.
On Ecademy I often get emails from people saying follow me... or various permutations on the theme... all annoying because they don’t actually say how great they are at something and their reason for connecting, most are just lonely or stoned!
On Linkedin the process “seems” more professional... people send you an email saying connect and you can visit their profile in an instant, see their relevance to your world and choose to connect or not... they are not trying to make friends, they are saying hi, I’m a professional business person, do we match ... now that makes sense.
But are you suppose to just say YES to everyone or should you be more selective in your connections?
Should you say YES to get the party started and then chop back to those who are more relevant to your world? But how do you know if someone is relevant to your world? They may work as an accountant but actually collect Star Trek memorabilia and you’ve just launched a website called Startrekingacrosstheuniverse.com ... initially you would have potentially thought boring so and so ... and now at least you know!!
So is the answer YES... Do you connect with the whole world? ... or should you be more selective?
Offer your comments below and let’s get engaging in this world... we now have 42 members since Friday!
