UEFA politics could hinder England’s 2018 World Cup bid
By The Isogon GroupMichel Platini, UEFA’s president, has made no promises to the Football Association that UEFA will provide a unified vote for any specific European country during the vote for the 2018 World Cup hosts, The Telegraph reports.
This could mean difficultly for England’s bid, considering that eight UEFA votes will be a part of FIFA’s executive committee that will select the winning country.
Platini admits that if UEFA backed England’s bid, it would greatly improve the country’s chances at winning, however he offers no guarantees that all eight UEFA representatives on the committee will vote the same way. They will not be forced to support England or any other specific candidate’s bid for hosting the 2018 World Cup.
